Three months have passed in the blink of an eye and much of it has been spent creating, painting, writing and gathering together my research notes for the Tarot Workbook that will accompany the re-issue of the Soulscapes Tarot and the forthcoming Initiates Way Tarot deck. If I thought that the journey of creating the Soulscapes Tarot brought with it major change and learning, it has transpired that the second time around of creating imagery for Tarot Major Trumps has brought with it immense wisdom, guidance and life learning for me personally and spiritually for which I am eternally grateful to have received .
The creation of the Major Arcana paintings for “Art – Temperance” “Pan-Hermes-Devil”, “Ivory Tower – Tower of destruction”, “The Star Sothis”, “Sun”, “Moon” and the “Goddess of the Grove – Empress” has been an enlightening, sometimes frightening, awakening journey all of its own and a huge learning curve in terms of my current understanding of the Tarot and its uses. The images for the Initiates Way have arisen of their own accord from the depths of imagination like bubbles popping to the surface from the bottom of a deep lake.
Even the method of painting has been so different from image to image. I started out using fingertips to dab and smudge block colour straight on to the canvas to paint the Wands / Staffs Court images and then to have gone on to watering the oil paint down with Olive oil and painting in layers on the Pan – Hermes – Devil, and incorporating metallic acrylic and indelible markers to define symbols. There is definitely something primal about the imagery that speaks to the subconscious rather than to the analytical mind.
I will be taking some of the new Initiates Way paintings to show at the upcoming events at Morton Manor in Carlisle on the 2nd April and our Health Healing and Awareness Day in the Carnegie on the 9th April. Each of these images comes with a meditation to awaken that particular Archetype that has been written for use in a group setting or for use in ones sacred space during meditation, these will be published soon in book format as well as audio. I’ll be running workshops at the events using the High Priestess path working for anyone who wants to come and join in and learn how to use the Tarot for Meditation.
Tarot is so much more than just just a tool for divination. It is your entrance point into another realm entirely, a journey within your very being and it is there waiting for you to set out upon its grand adventure.
So 2016 has come to a welcome end and as the wheel has turned 2017 has ushered in new hope, inspiration and motivation for new ventures and creations.
When I was at University in 2006 I created my first Tarot deck for the final project that I did before I graduated from the Media and Communications degree. It was called The Initiates Way. Thinking back it was rather ambitious to attempt to create something as big as that on my own while I was still right at the beginning of my path into discovery. It was a big learning curve for me that lead on to the creation of the second deck between 2009 and 2013. The Soulscapes Tarot was self published after seven years of working one to one as a Holistic Therapist and 20 years of reading as a professional Tarot Consultant and a lot of the awakenings and experiences that I had during that time are imbued in the imagery of the deck.
Now as I find myself in a different place entirely, with a completely different perspective I have begun the task of re-creating the Initiates Way Tarot to document the journey so far and add another dimension to the Soul Journey of my own revelations and discovery through working with the Tarot Archetypes. This time I have assistance with the very willing dragon twins who love to paint and create at every available opportunity.
Early December 2016 I started in ernest with the images for this new deck. So far I have painted the High Priestess, the Ace, King, Queen and Princess of Wands / Staffs and I’m working on the Magician at the moment.
During the process of creation for this deck so far Christen and Charlie have assisted me with some awesome backgrounds to work with. The Ace of Wands / Staffs is our co-creation between the three of us and is currently hanging on the wall in their room as inspiration for us as we set out to create the rest of the images together for that suit.
Three sittings later and the Magician image is starting to take shape nicely. I started painting it on Jan 1st with the original painting of the Messenger / Magician from the Soulscapes deck as company.
I have written guided meditations for each of the Major Arcana that will be available online soon for anyone who wants to pathwork with any of the Major Tarot images. If you are interested in the guided mediations that I have written especially for working with the Major Arcana they will be published in the forthcoming Soulscapes Tarot Companion and some of them will be available as streamable mp3’s on iTunes. Please email me for more info on this.
The Queen of Staffs / Wands has had a lot of positive feedback and it was with her that I decided that I should begin the Fools Journey once again for another round of learning, growing, seeking and creating. If theres one thing that the Tarot has taught me it is that we are never too old to learn something new and that we evolve all the time from one state to another and fluctuate through the processes of change. Each of these new images have burst straight from the tubes of paint straight to the canvas just by using fingers. Any fine detail that has been added at the end has been to define something or bring more understanding to the image. Watch this space for more creations.
