Can you benefit from Reiki?
The initial Spiritual Practices of Usui Method of Reiki focus on 'cleansing', 'opening' and 'Mindfulness' as a precursor to self-healing. Reiki is considered by some as purely an empowerment for developing healing abilities (ie. for healing others), but it is more importantly a tool for deepening ones own spiritual development and discovering ones own true essence.
Usui teachings are about 'Personal Mastery' and 'healing of the self' The ability to heal others could be considered a relatively minor by-product of the Self-development process. Every individual had the capacity to fully know themselves.
About the Usui Method
Reiki can be thought if as a generic term used to describe many types of healing and spiritual work. It is not exclusive to the system of healing based on Dr. Usui's method of healing which he taught and practiced, based on his mystical experience on Mt. Kurama, and by making use of his studies in many different areas of knowledge.
Rei - Spiritual Wisdom Ki - Life Force
The Word "Rei" means Universal as a general definition though japanese ideograms have several layers of meaning, or interpretation. It is accepted that the meaning is more accurately interpreted by reiki practitioners as "Higher Spiritual Consciousness", that understands root cause and therefore cures all problems and difficulties.
Reiki in the West
The Usui System of Natural Healing has evolved over time, after coming to the west. In its current state, it is much more organized and structured than the simple, flexible, intuitive method practiced by Dr. Usui.
